Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and singer whose acting range earned her popular acclaim across a range of styles from period dramas to thriller and action adventure. Johansson daughter of an architect and producer was raised in New York City. Hunter is the sister of Johansson was also born in the city of New York. In her early years, she began acting. In fact, by the age of 7, she had already auditioned for several commercials. She joined the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly after and was a student at the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to continue her training. When she was eight years old, she starred with Ethan Hawke as Sophistry in Off-Broadway productions. At the age of nine she made her acting debut in Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson was next seen as a character in Just Cause (1996), but it was Manny & Lo 1996 that was her breakthrough. The film is about two young girls that run away. After that, she earned critical praise for portraying the role of a teenager who suffered an accident that caused her to be with a blemish as she appeared in The Horse Whisperer (1998). Her popularity grew with the film Ghost World (2002) as the cynical outcast Rebecca.
